Tips and Method for Making a Vanilla Sponge Cake

When it comes to a vanilla sponge cake, it is one of the most wonderfully easy and quick recipe to make. The recipe can be customized in various methods by using different kinds of flavors and toppings such as fruits, nuts, marzipan and icing sugar.

Following is the method for making a vanilla sponge cake:

This recipe serves eight adults.

Ingredients

• Eggs: Eight (Separate the egg white and yolk)

• Sugar: 200 gm

• Flour: 200 gm

• Melted Butter: 200 gm

• Vanilla extract: 2 – 3 tsp

Method

• Preheat the oven to 180° degrees

• Beat the eggs yolks with a beater until they form a smooth creamy texture

• Gradually start adding sugar, two tablespoons at a time to thicken the mixture

• Add vanilla extract to the mixture and keep beating the concoction until its volume doubles compared to what it was in the beginning

• Beat the egg whites in a separate bowl and repeat with the sugar. When the mixture increases in volume, gently fold it in the egg yolk mix. Do not mix it entirely.

• Finally add flour through the sieve in the eggs mixture

• Pour the mixture in a tin and place it in the oven

The vanilla sponge cake must be baked for thirty minutes. Before taking it out of the oven, test the cake with a toothpick or wooden skewer by inserting it in the middle. If the tip comes out wet then the cake is not yet baked and if it comes out clean then take the cake out of the oven.

Let the cake cool and top it as you like. The most simple and delicious topping for a vanilla sponge cake is either jam or icing sugar.

You can also try other things such as cutting the cake horizontally and filling the middle with cream, jam or fruits.
